Owned independently by a local Newcastle couple, Rare, has recently opened its doors to the public, set in the old “ Rectory Chambers ” a building unique in character that dates back to the mid 18th century. Our Restaurant and Bar are contemporary in style, fully air conditioned, with a relaxed informal atmosphere, we have a very nice, large, fully enclosed covered and heated smoking terrace to the rear, and a Pavement Café to the front so “Alfresco style” eating and drinking is not a problem should you desire.

Our speciality is thick, juicy, succulent, and tasty steaks, which our Chefs will char grill to your preference. We source our beef locally from Staffordshire farms and insist on the best, top quality cuts to ensure you really can taste the difference. For non steak lovers and non meat eaters our Head Chef has created an exciting array of dishes to tantalise your taste buds including delicious salads, chicken, fish, pork, home made burgers and fajita dishes, as well as a good range of Starters, and delicious Desserts to finish you meal.

Open all day from 9:30am Monday -Saturday until Midnight and from 11pm until Midnight on a Sunday, serving the largest Breakfast in Newcastle for only £4.95, and Lunch for under a fiver, It is no wonder Rare was recently described as, “A jewel in Newcastle’s crown for quality food, in a quality setting, at a great price.”

Rare is not only about great food and service day and night, if you are looking for a contemporary Lounge and Cocktail Bar where you can enjoy a beer, a glass of wine, or a superb Cocktail, then it’s the place for you, grab a drink and sit back and relax with friends in our comfy Italian leather sofas, or dance the night away on our large Dance Floor while our Dj’s play the latest tunes (Wednesday and Friday evenings from 9pm).
